Stunty Leeg Eshin Adepts Team

On FUMBBL, that longstanding Java based website for playing Blood Bowl there's a sub-category of teams called Stunty Leeg. All Stunty teams they take the Stunty template of Dodge and Stunty skilled players and populate it with all sorts of fun and downright wacky rosters such as Skaven Eshin, Nurglings, Snotlings (including pump wagons!) and the bomb-slinging Tzeentchian horrors.

My friend Ed has decided to allow these teams in the second iteration of Tavern Sevens, our local Blood Bowl tournament here in Sheffield. And most coaches are now taking them with 'normal' teams in the minority!

Here are my Eshin Adepts, a team who have odd abilities such as Shadowing and Stab as you'd expect assassins to have no doubt. Enjoy!

Bretonnian Blood Bowl Team from Black Wolf Painting Studio

As a birthday treat to myself I splurged (a little) on a commission piece created by Andy 'Thor' Spiers of Black Wolf Painting Studio. For a very reasonable price (think it was in £60 - £75 range) he delved into his bits and created and painted a full Blood Bowl team for me along with a carry case, the only quirk being it would be one of three teams and I couldn't choose which  - I elected for Khemri, Bretonnian and I believe the third was Chaos (maybe).

Anyway in super quick time he made and painted them for me and passed them onto a friend at the Waterbowl. I'm not normally one to get people to paint a team for me although this is the second in recent times. I've realised otherwise it will take me forever to play all 26 teams!!

Andy was very communicative and did a great job - my favourite bit being the use of shields to denote the blockers. As he said to me they could easily be used as Humans too as positionals are easily identifiable as Throwers, Catchers etc as well as Knights.

Blood Bowl Match Report - Green Day Pacters versus the Bleeding Harts

So here's a match report from our local league in Sheffield. Elred and Cuthbert, are a pair of commentators who we have as characters in our match reports. Elred is a haughty high elf while Cuthbert is the most eloquent zombie ever...not. Needless to say I was the Dark Elves and I got trounced!

Elred: “And welcome sports fans with what promises to be a very heated match! Douvik Nethercaller, head coach of the Bleeding Harts has suffered punishing criticism after their 3-0 drubbing at the hands of rookie Chaos team Mike's Goats. Accusations abound that too much time and money has been invested in training a select few skilled players at the expense of team training. What do you think Cuthbert?”

Cuthbert: “Gaaaaa....aaaahll”

Elred: “Well said my odorous friend. Meanwhile their opponents the Green Day Pacters are yet to play this season although Aaron Cometbus has really taken to track training and is looking very nimble on his feet....

So the Harts have won the toss and elected to receive the kick..interesting..A fairly central kick but what's this?? The Pacters are very quick with Cometbus blitzing a Dark Elf lineman before the ball has even hit the ground!!”

Cuthbert: “BRAAAINNS”

Elred: “ So the Harts pick up the ball and screen it off - all good so far. Meanwhile the Pacters are smashing up my evil elven cousins from across the sea, Bully Vard the Minotaur charging and stunning a lineman and the Ogre Dookie knocking out another!

What's this – dark elf failing a dodge?? I can't help think there's something in what Nethercaller's accusers have been saying!”

Cuthbert's nose dribbles (it's not snot)

Elred: “Things are bad when Elves are having to cage and oh dear, Dookie has taken out the corner.

Miarrvyne Romaith, the ball carrying witch elf is exposed now! A marauder blitzes her but agile as she is she avoids been floored and is just pushed up between her team mates while the Pacters crowd the huddle around her. And what's this?? She's broken free - a frenzied push up out of what is quite frankly a mess here and deep into the Pacter's half!

And now a Marauder has broken free and dived at her taking them both down!

Cuthbert vomits maggots.

Elred: “And now Dark Elf blitzer, Merthen Apoavo has broken free to pick up the ball while his lineman teammate marks the downed Marauder who is then promptly blitzed away!

Oh and what's this?? In the murderous carnage in the middle of the pitch Teriher Merryn, blitzer for the Harts has been smashed to the ground and stomped to death by Bully Vard!! Lucky for the Harts, Apoavo eludes his mark and scores. TOUCHDOWN!!

Well that was dramatic! If the Pacters can score before the end of this half, things are looking very shakey for the Harts..

The crowd are definitely helping the Harts here as they spill on the pitch, rioting and shouting abuse. The Pacters are running out of time now but with not many Dark Elves on the pitch this will definitely help...

Nice deep kick. What remains of the Harts is marked...

...and  Bully has taken another player off the pitch, luckily just a KO this time. A marauder has got the ball and handed off to the Pacter's own Dark Elf, Nimrod.

Boy, do the Harts fans hate this turncoat! Well that's Romaith too hurt to play for the rest of the game as she's mobbed by Bully and three Marauders.

Really now it's a choice of who will score. Nimrod does a quick pass and Mike Dirnt catches scores!!”

Cuthbert: “Hullltrhhh..gahhh”

Elred: “Yes I agree, things are really going to be tough now for the Harts now. And it seems not many of the team are recovering from being knocked out..These fans are insane! They are now threatening the ref with a severe beating should he not turn a blind eye to fouling. They're out for blood!

So the ball's kicked on the sideline but Nimrod just about still has it.

Oh this is just horrendous..Harts are failing dodges are all over..that break away blitz just saw one of them on the floor. The Pacters are taking their time travelling up the pitch and stalling smashing elven skulls as they go.

No one is standing at all now!

And I can even see a sneaky foul in there and that's another Dark Elf lineman off the pitch. And with that it's all over...Nimrod has scored and the Pacters have won 2-1!!

Thanks for watching sports fans. I wouldn't be surprised if Nethercaller is flayed alive after his team's performance!”

Blood for the Blood Bowl God

I recently converted this figure up to repurpose him as a vampiric Blood Bowl player. He’s an old miniature from the characterful late eighties early nineties Citadel Night Horrors range.

Snipped off his hand and replaced it with one from the modern GW human plastic spruce. Job Done.

Happy Halloween all !

End of 2016 Sumup

About time I did this before we get into 2018 right?  Well first up is those miniatures you didn't see but which I did paint up in 2016 but did not post because I was tired/lazy/unreliable (delete as appropriate).
First up is a unit of Not-UNIT which will find themselves fighting off Daleks and Cybermen in a Doctor Who game soon. A pity a lot of Crooked Dice Miniatures' Not Doctor Who range is disappearing under the watchful eye of BBC lawyers, in the advent of the official Doctor Who game from Warlord (if it ever comes...)

Next up some miniatures needed for a Mordheim game at Warhammer World this weekend. Some for the random encounters table; the big guy for my own warband.

The ogre is from the Attack of the Ogre Horde Heroquest Expansion. Because the best thing about Heroquest is it's figures here he is with every other Heroquest figure I have that is painted (wizard not painted by me by the way)

I did have some Judge Dredd and a Sea Devil photographed too but I messed up the focus. Like I said   - unreliable.

127 models painted this year compared to 73 last year. Wowsers (yep I'm gonna use that word). I put it down to the challenges I put myself under. The Four Gamers and my own challenge to paint a Blood Axe warband certainly kept me going. I'm not particularly motivated by quantity - if I painted one fabulous Greater Spined Dragon all year I'd be happy - but it's a good measure of my painting speed and my commitment.

OTT, slow, insane and all consuming - I needed to go home after it. But a mind blowing gaming spectacle I'm likely not to experience again anytime soon. Thanks to Snickit, Garth and everyone else's name who I have already forgot for the experience. Incidentally it was also my post with the highest views this year. Over 600.

Release of the year - Blood Bowl. Yes I know it's not a new game and really the tinsy number of changes GW have made to the league rules and Gutter Runners are over-powered or insignificant but it's back and thousands of people are playing  across the world who have never played it before.

It's a fantastic game (in my humble GW's best game) and it always has been and it's great to see that passion for it back among so many even if the core of the game has not changed one jot. And it means I can get games of it without travelling on a train to Rotherham or Doncaster which can only be a good thing.

On top of that I admin'ed the Oldhammer Facebook groups for a while which was hard and in the end too hard (started to feel like kinda like a job). They're great groups but as with that type of forum there's a lot of crap which is unrewarding that comes with it. Shout out to Warlord Paul, thansants, Steve Casey,  James Taylor, Steve Klatcheff, James Armstead and Chris Sabick for protecting the community from the spammers and monsters.

Other highlights included finding an amiable bunch of gamers spread thin but wide around the North of England ( a few of which are Oldhammer admins or were at some point) but play like minded old games but sometimes D&D and sometimes less common fare like Pulp Alley.

2016 was a great year for gaming. Next year more GM'ing, more scenery, finish the Four Gamers challenge, more focus ( I have a project spreadsheet!) and a MASSIVE Doctor Who game in March co-GM'ed with thansants (more on that later). On top of that I'm getting married. Peace.

Winter Anarchy

This weekend I participated in a Blood Bowl tournament up in Doncaster run by my friend Flick - Winter Anarchy. It has some nice spins to the game such as the ability to throw snowballs at players (which have no in game effect but there is a prize for those who hit with the most) and free bribes for players with chainsaws.
I came sixth out of eight and there were lots of different races in the team line up. Since people like pics of minis the most, here are some with pics taken by Flick of each of the teams posing in his home made stadium (which is awesome by the way - I need to find some pics of the whole thing).

Flick's Dark Elves (converted from the third ed Dark Eldar minis)

Rich's awesomely painted Chaos Pact team

Stuart's Dwarves

Matt's Chaos

My orc team the Splintered Knee

Gav's Orc team

Cam's Wood Elves

Bill's Dwarves

And a pic of the prizes :)

Da Blood Bowl Orcs

I'd started painting and playing Blood Bowl just so I could get involved in the OldBowl tournament at BOYL this year. Unfortunately I did not plan my time well and only had most of the Orc team roughly base coloured by the time of the tournie, and after seeing the standard of the painting at BOYL I shamefacedly sank home at midday to finish them. Then public transport issues scuppered plans to return on the Sunday!
However on a positive note, I then did proceed to finish off the paint jobs on my boyz. In my opinion the third edition orc plastic BB team are up there with some of the best of their plastic kits.

Da Black Orcs

The second from the left is a modern plastic Orc warrior with the weapons lopped off. Fits right in my humble opinion.

The Lineman.

Both easy and a joy to paint.

Throwers

Blitzers. The middle guy is a second edition metal.

Star Player Varag Ghoul Chewer. A classic sculpt.

I've been playing BB on the iPad and am realising how useful a goblin can be so at some point I will add one and a troll to the lineup (I already have the minis) as well as the team's retinue including cheerleaders, assistant coaches, an apothecary etc etc. I'm thinking this BB suits my painting pace well as it's actually possible to finish a team despite my turtle speed!

Next up having been inspired by greenskins I'm working on an Ork Blood Axe Rogue Trader warband. Pics coming soon!

Old School Blood Bowl

These are the oldest surviving miniatures that I have - a Blood Bowl Skeleton and a Wight. I still have the rest of the team unpainted and so one project (yet to be started) is to paint them all in the same colours. A challenge no doubt as none of the inks are made any longer!

I wish I knew what had happened to the rest of my minis from those days. These guys are about 20 years old. I have a feeling I threw out the rest in some cathartic purge :(
